We were delighted to be Abi and Mac’s wedding photographer for their big day at Styal Lodge this week – not only because their wedding sounded super couple but also because we love to shoot weddings at Styal Lodge! We were in love with Abi and Mac’s theme showcasing their love of literature and their love of the planet. I also discovered any amazing DIY wedding hack: bunting and confetti made out of their favourite books! What a genius idea?! I also loved the potted plant centrepieces which were gifted to guests at the end. All of this was brought together with beautifully rich orange and green accents.

As a wedding photographer this wedding was a dream to shoot! We arrived and met Mac who was hard at work with his best man putting the finishing touches to the bunting. Emma from Planning My Special Day had already set up the reception space which looked incredible. There were twinkly lights and greenery galore! Emma specialises in venue dressing, styling and ceiling dressing in Cheshire. She knows Styal Lodge very well having dressed hundred of weddings there, so you should definitely check her out on Instagram!

Getting ready in the Bridal Suite

There was plenty of activity in the bridal suite and Abi got into her dress about half an hour early, which is very rare for a wedding day! One of the best things about wedding photography at Styal Lodge is that you are able to capture the bride and know that you can literally be in the ceremony space in 30 seconds giving lots of time for bridal portraits. Abi was really relaxed and we were able to get some lovely shots. I like to place my brides by diffused window light for portraits. So it’s good to bear this in mind when you are thinking about where you are getting ready for your own wedding.

Ceremony

The couple had prepared their own vows which had everyone in tears! This was a lovely touch and made helped give a glimpse of how Abi and Mac really felt about each other. So definitely one to consider for your wedding. Mac’s groomsman Mark gave a reading, followed by Abi’s sister Sofie. I think this is a thoughtful and simple way to include special people in your wedding day.

Confetti time

After all the tears, we headed outside with the couple and their guests for some epic confetti shots. We gather guests into two lines, ask them to get close and throw the confetti high. I hadn’t realised how many guests Abi and Mac had. As I walked backwards the confetti just kept coming!

Couple’s portraits at the lake

Abi and Mac shared with us how they had chosen Styal Lodge because they liked the natural feel of the venue. Another reason was that they loved the idea of portraits by the lake. So we asked Laura, the co-ordinator at Styal Lodge, to fire up the golf buggy and take us across the golf course to get some shots. I wasn’t suprised by how relaxed and loved up Abi and Mac were. Because of this they made our job as wedding photographers really easy! We just asked them to stand close and do their thing!

Maid of Honour speech

Having had a lovely time at the lake, we came back and the couple spent some more time with guests. We took some family group photos and it was soon time for speeches. As well as the father of the bride and best man’s speeches this wedding also included a maid of honour speech! I absolutely love this idea and think it should definitely become a thing. After all, who else knows your story like your best friend?

Party time!

Once the speeches were over we started to get ready for the party to start. Abi and Mac had custom VANS in their wedding colours ready to dance the night away comfortably. This is another great idea and also another element to bring your wedding theme to live. We were treated to an absolutely awesome performance by Sheffield wedding band Skylight: I would highly recommend these guys if you want a group who will really get the crowd going and make the party swing! I loved how Abi and Mac were on the dance floor the whole night and gave it their all!
